How to make a perfect Irish Coffee
- Raw sugar
- Espresso beans
- Irish or Scotch whiskey
- Whipping cream
- Clear glass
Preparation:
What we are going to make is called Irish coffee, so there are two main subjects: Irish/Scotch whiskey and coffee.
Let’s start of with the coffee, this should definitely be espresso since it is the main part of the recepy. But how to define this? Preferably it should have been dark roasted, freshly roasted and ground very fine. Eventually a blend of coffee beans but an origin coffee will do just fine, this is depending on your personal taste.
For our perfect Irish Coffee we use two shots of Espresso, one teaspoon of raw sugar, one shot Irish/Scotch whiskey and 1/8 cup whipping cream. Do keep in mind you should steam your fresh cream before starting to actually make our Irish Coffee. Also your Irish/Scotch whiskey should be steamed.
Last thing todo before we start is to warm up your clear glass, if you have an espresso machine you probably have a place to warmup glasses, otherwise you can heat it up with hot water, don’t forget to clean it after it’s been warmed.
Putting everything together
Take the teaspoon raw sugar and put this at the bottom of your glass, then put the two espresso shots in. Now gently pour in the warm Irish/Scotch whiskey and give it time to float back to the top of your glass.
The hard part is now to slowly put the steamed whipping cream on top without it sinking and/or mixing with the other two layers. This is all up to you and if you do not succeed, you can drink it and try again and again and again
Review: DeLonghi KG39 Grinder
Introduction
When we were testing several roasting patterns and their outcome at my coffee roasting company i needed a small grinder for cupping. I rang up our electrical utility provider and they had a few in stock. I didn’t yet know which ones were good and were using which techniques since i had never bought a house grinder untill then. When the guy came in an hour or so later, he had a DeLonghi KG39 Grinder in his hands, so this was what we worked with.
First look
The purple, compact grinder has a rather futuristic look, does not work on batteries and costs around <….>. It looks very simple to use as it only has one button, which is the grinding button. Everything else is 3 led’s to display wether you want your coffee to be grinded coarse, medium or fine. And one rotating wheel which you should adjust depending on how many cups of coffee you would like to make. It goes from 4 up untill 12 and everyting in between. One cup should be considered an average of 7 gram depending on the darkness of the coffee and how strong you like yours.
First time grinding
Then on to actually using the grinder. It’s using two blades spinning on one axle, this is what makes all the difference in the world. Because of this, it’s price tag is alot lower then professional small grinders and the quality of grinding is alot lower. Small, professional grinders use two ??? malls ??? to create friction so the bean get’s grinded. With this grinder it actually “cuts” the coffee into pieces, so the taste is very different. Then up to the grinding quality, this is what i think the most important part (and why i preffer to pay a little more for a grinder and achieve amazingly better results). The grinded coffee has a big differentiation between particle size. The grinding is never constant in particle size even within one batch. So even if you have roasted or bought the perfect coffee it would never taste the same and each cup of coffee would be different.
Conclusion
The DeLonghi KG39 is a grinder that should only be used at home and if you don’t want to spend huge amounts of money on a grinder then this is a perfect solution to grind your coffee.
